Hot take: that $22 lead substitute saved my valve seats and I almost skipped it
When I got my 1972 MG Midget out of a barn in Ravenna two years back, an old guy at the parts counter told me to run lead substitute in every tank because of the soft seats. I figured it was an upsell and ran pump gas plain for about 400 miles until the valves started clattering on the highway. Dropped $22 on a bottle, and the noise calmed down by the second tank. Has anyone actually had valve seats go bad from skipping this stuff, or am I just buying peace of mind?
