I spent 3 grand on a '56 Bel Air because of a parking lot shine and the paint fell off in sheets
I bought a '56 Bel Air at a swap meet in Fontana two summers back. The guy had it under a pop up tent with a halogen light pointed at the hood, and that paint looked like glass. I walked the row three times and told myself a car that shiny for $3,200 had to be solid. Brought it home, parked it in the driveway, and the next morning after a light rain the clear coat was peeling off in sheets the size of dinner plates. I ran my magnet across the rear quarter and it barely stuck. The whole lower body was packed with filler over rust holes you could fit a fist through. Turns out I never once knelt down and looked at the rockers in daylight, I just stared at the reflection like a chump. Now I carry a fridge magnet and a flashlight in my truck at every meet. How many of you got burned by the same trick before you learned to crawl under the car?
