Rant: I finally counted my spare parts bins and the number made me change how I buy
I always figured I had maybe 40 or 50 boxes of spare parts stacked in the garage, and last Saturday I actually sat down and counted them all. 187. That number hit me hard because half of them held stuff I could not even identify without digging, mostly crusty bolts and trim clips I saved off parts cars going back to my first project in 2003. What convinced me to change my buying was doing the math on space: my shelves held about $600 worth of used junk while I keep passing on a $400 original grille because I claim I have no room. So my new rule is simple, if a box has no label and no car attached to it by the end of the month, it gets sorted or sold at the next swap. Has anyone else done a real count and gotten a number way bigger than they guessed?
