Back in 2008 I chose the local comic shop over cheap online orders, and my pull list never recovered
When I moved to Ohio in 2008 there was a small shop called Galactic Times about 15 minutes from my apartment, and the owner, Pete, knew every customer by name. I could have saved a few bucks ordering floppies online, but I picked the shop and started a pull list there. For about four years I was in every Wednesday, sometimes spending $40 a week on new books and back issues. Then the shop closed in 2012 when the landlord raised rent, and I switched to digital for a while. It was never the same. I missed the Thursday chats about whether a writer was phoning it in, and I missed digging through the dollar bins. I still buy digital when I travel, but I have not had a real pull list since Pete locked the door for the last time. Did any of you stick with a local shop through a closure, or did you just go fully online and never look back?
