Still think graded comics are a waste of money

I used to buy raw issues and read them cover to cover. Spent maybe $10 a week at my local shop in Portland. Then I watched a guy pay $400 for a 9.8 copy of Ultimate Spider-Man #1 just to keep it sealed. That changed my mind. I still don't grade everything but I get my keys slabbed now. Who else feels like grading killed the fun of flipping through issues?

Grading killed the fun of flipping through issues" - is it really that serious, though? I mean, I get it, having a raw book you can actually read is cool. But I see people acting like grading is some kind of crime against the hobby. It's just a way to keep something nice, man. You can still buy reader copies for a buck and flip through those all you want. Why does everyone have to treat a plastic case like it's ruining their childhood?

I've got a drawer full of raw beaters and still feel guilty every time I look at my graded books.
