Heard a guy at the hardware store say he saves his glass jars for organizing nails

I was grabbing some screws yesterday and overheard this older guy telling his son how he keeps all his pickle and salsa jars for sorting small hardware in his garage. It sounds so simple but I've been throwing those out for years (and buying those little plastic bins that always crack). Has anyone else found a weird container that works way better than what you're supposed to use?

Tried the cheap laminate flooring vs the mid-range stuff side by side in my hallway

I redid a 12 foot hallway in my 1920s bungalow in Portland. Tried a $0.79 per square foot laminate on one half and a $1.89 per square foot from the same brand on the other. The cheap stuff started chipping at the edges after 2 months from just normal foot traffic. The mid-range still looks brand new 8 months later. Anyone else find that the price jump between the bottom tier and the next one up is totally worth it for flooring?

Can we talk about how I was crimping D-sub pins wrong for 8 years?

So I was at a shop in Phoenix last month helping a buddy with a harness build. He watches me do a few pins and goes 'uh, you know that tool has a ratchet stop right?' I had no clue. I was just squeezing until it felt tight. Turns out I was crushing the insulation on half my pins. No wonder I had intermittent issues on those old King Radio units. Anyone else figure out a basic skill way later than they should have?

Warning: Don't waste $150 on a fancy boning knife set online

I mean, I saw this ad for a set of six German steel boning knives for $150 and thought it was a steal. They looked slick with the colored handles and everything. Got them in last month and after three uses the edge was gone on two of them. Tried sharpening one on my stone and the metal just felt soft, like butter. Meanwhile my old 40 dollar Victorinox from the restaurant supply store is still going strong after five years. I ended up giving the set to a buddy who does light trimming at home and it's fine for him I guess. Has anyone else been burned by those flashy knife sets online?

Hit 150 gallons of sauerkraut this month and my back is killing me

I didn't even realize I was cranking out that much until I added up the jars. My kitchen smells like a deli and I've got carpal tunnel from shredding cabbage on my mandoline. Anyone else lose track of their batch counts and get surprised?

I used to just eyeball moisture levels before hardwood installs, but after a call-back in Phoenix last summer I bought a pinless meter. Now I check every single slab and it's saved me from three potential failures in 6 months. Anyone else switch to a specific moisture check routine?

Swapped from leaf springs to coilovers on my Tacoma

I spent 3 years fighting axle wrap with add-a-leaves and blocks. Finally pulled the trigger on a coilover conversion kit from a guy in Arizona. First trail run up in the Sierra foothills was night and day difference in how the rear followed the terrain. Would any of you go back to leaves after trying coils, or am I just in the honeymoon phase?

Bought a $60 heated chicken waterer and my girls still broke the ice themselves

I got that fancy heated waterer off Amazon thinking it'd save me from chipping ice every morning this winter. Woke up last week to find my hens had pecked a hole in the side and were drinking from the frozen puddle underneath it instead. Now I'm back to using a rubber pan and a brick, cost me like $10 total and works way better. Has anyone else had their chickens reject a perfectly good gadget for the cheap option?

Rolled my eyes at a guy in Portland who swore by reading Silver Age comics for writing advice

After 6 months of struggling with my dialogue, I picked up a copy of Stan Lee's old Amazing Spider-Man run and suddenly understood pacing in a way no modern tutorial ever explained, so has anyone else found surprising lessons in older comics that you didn't expect?

Serious question, did anyone else fall for that cheap paint sprayer on Amazon?

I dropped 80 bucks on that Wagner sprayer everyone raves about, thinking it would save me hours painting my fence. First use, it clogged after 10 minutes and left drips everywhere, so I had to hand-brush the whole thing anyway. Anyone else have better luck with a different sprayer under 150?
