This older guy at the Portland comic shop completely changed how I think about collecting

I was looking at a $200 copy of Amazing Spider-Man #300 and said something dumb about it being an 'investment'. This guy, named Mark, just looked at me and said, 'Kid, if you're not buying it to read it, you're just a stockbroker with a hobby.' It happened last month and I still think about it. Does anyone else feel like the 'value' part of comics has kind of taken over the fun?

Wow, that hit me hard... I used to keep stuff sealed too, but now I just read everything.

Mark's got a point. My own shelf is full of books I bought for the cover art but never opened. Feels more like a museum than a collection sometimes.
