Tried reading All-Star Batman on a friend's rec and quit after 40 pages

A buddy at the shop in Dayton swore All-Star Batman was the best thing Miller ever wrote so I gave it a shot last week. Got 40 pages in and just sat there confused by the art and the dialogue. I always figured I was missing something, but turns out I just don't like that run and that's fine. Made me realize I should stop forcing myself through books just cause someone whose taste I trust swears by it. Anyone else got a book everyone loves that you bounced off of hard?
