Chose the old brass helmet over the new fiberglass one for a 60 foot river job, and my neck is still mad at me
Got offered two helmets for a pipe inspection job in the Sacramento River a couple months back, a beat up fiberglass Superlite and a shiny old Desco pot with a busted comms wire. I picked the brass one because the tender said it had soul, which should have been my first red flag. Forty minutes on the bottom with a 32 pound helmet on my head and I was fighting the current with my whole upper body just to look left. I came up with a kink in my neck that lasted four days and the fiberglass one went out the next morning with another guy who finished in half my time. The comms cut out twice too, so I was basically diving blind and deaf in brown water. Anyone else ever pick the cool looking gear over the practical one, or am I the only dummy who falls for that?
