Overheard a guy at a yard sale say 'old ThinkPads are just better built' and that finally clicked for me

Ngl those old ThinkPads were built different. My T420 still runs like a champ while my friend's new laptop already has a dead battery.

My $20 rice cooker changed everything after 3 months

Wait wait wait, you're telling me electricity costs are a real factor here? Like actually making a dent in your savings? I mean I get that a slow cooker or pressure cooker uses power but I never would've thought it'd be enough to cancel out the savings from bulk beans. That's wild to me. Maybe it's just my area but electricity's pretty cheap where I live, I'd have to run my Instant Pot for like 12 hours straight to add a couple dollars to my bill. But the time thing, yeah, I totally get that. Soaking beans overnight and remembering to do it feels like a whole other job sometimes.

Took 3 weeks to sort out a title issue from the 90s on a refi that should've closed in 10 days

Good heavens, three weeks and that much time on hold for a document from 30 years ago? Seems like a lot of fuss over something that probably has zero bearing on your current situation. Maybe the title company was just covering their bases and it wasn't really that urgent in the first place.

My aunt's pie crust recipe called for a full cup of shortening, but I swapped it for half butter after a dry result in 2021.

wait, hold up @the_oscar - isnt the 2023 version actually a musical adaptation? i mean the original 1985 film was a straight drama and the new one is based on the broadway show, so theyre kind of different beasts. the musical adds songs and dance numbers that change the vibe a lot. i feel like comparing them directly is tough because theyre going for different things emotionally. the original had that raw quiet intensity while the new one is more about joy and celebration through the music. both are good but theyre not really competing on the same level, you know?

Took me 3 hours to level a 50 ton crawler because I forgot one step

My buddy once spent three hours trying to level his washing machine before he realized the floor was just that crooked. Man was fighting a losing battle from the start. He kept checking the manual over and over but nothing in there said "your 1920s foundation is the actual problem." Sometimes you gotta look at the bigger picture instead of just following steps step by step. A manual can't tell you every weird little thing that's going to go wrong.
