Dove on a pipeline job off the coast of Louisiana last month
I was working a 100-foot depth inspection on a natural gas line near Port Fourchon and noticed the visibility was way worse than usual. Turned out there was a silt runoff from a nearby dredging operation that nobody warned us about. Has anyone else run into unexpected vis changes from dredging or construction nearby?

Yeah, I had a similar joyride up in the Gulf a few years back. Thought I was going blind down there, turns out it was just a dredge plume turning everything into chocolate milk. At least when you can't see your hand in front of your face, you don't have to look at your own terrifying reflection in the mask.

...and @jordan330 nailed it with that chocolate milk comparison. It's like when you're trying to read a menu in a dimly lit diner, you just accept the mystery meal and hope for the best. That same hidden variable shows up everywhere in life, not just underwater, it's just that nobody warns you about it until you're already knee-deep.
