Dropped $340 on a Kirby Morgan knockoff helmet in 2004 and it nearly cost me my life on a rig job in Morgan City
I was young and cheap and thought I could save a few grand by skipping the real deal, but on my third dive the exhaust valve stuck wide open at 60 feet and I had to buddy breathe all the way up. That cheap knockoff got sold for scrap the next week and I went into debt for a real SuperLite 17B that I still dive today. Any other old timers remember what gear they tried to cheap out on early in their career and regretted?
