Shoutout to the old school divers who taught me about ear equalization

I keep seeing new guys in our field just ignoring their ears until it hurts. In my experience, that slow steady equalization every few feet saves you from a blown eardrum and a week off work. Last month I was on a job in New Bedford harbor and watched a helper try to force his way down 20 feet without equalizing once. He was out for three days with pressure damage, lost close to $800 in pay. Has anyone else noticed this becoming more common with the younger crew?

Isn't that the same mindset where people skip small steps and then wonder why things fall apart?

Right? Like building a house but skipping the foundation because who needs concrete when you can just start on the roof. Then one strong wind and its all rubble and someone's wondering why their Netflix binge got interrupted by a collapsed ceiling. Classic shortcut logic, always ends in a mess you have to clean up with twice the effort later anyway.
