TIL that pre-dive checks aren't just for new guys, my umbilical got pinched at 60 feet
I used to think the walkaround before a dive was mostly for show. Last Tuesday at a dock job in Galveston, my umbilical got pinched between a piling and the barge at about 60 feet. I felt the tug, lost comms for maybe 8 seconds, and had to switch to my backup air. The tender said later he saw the line rubbing and figured I'd catch it. Now I take the full 5 minutes to trace every inch of my line before I splash. Anyone got a system for keeping the umbilical clear when the surface is moving?
