Our new combi oven's 'auto clean' cycle cost us $2,300 in repairs
We got a new combi oven last year and the manual said the auto clean cycle was safe for daily use. After about four months, the steam generator started leaking badly. The repair tech said the harsh chemicals from the daily auto clean had eaten through a seal not meant for that much use. The parts and labor came to $2,300, which our service contract didn't fully cover. Has anyone else had a major piece of kit fail from following the manufacturer's own cleaning schedule?

Manual said daily use was fine, but that seems unrealistic for any cleaning cycle with chemicals. Our kitchen equipment gets cleaned weekly at most, even with auto functions. Harsh cleaners break down parts over time no matter what the book says. Maybe the manual was written for ideal conditions that don’t match real world wear and tear.

Wonder if they test these cycles on older units at all.

Yeah, saw a repair tech online saying the same thing. They said those auto-clean cycles are the main reason older models come in with pump issues. Makes you wonder if the testing is even done on machines past year two.
