A stranger at the bus stop in Portland made me rethink how I ask for help
She just said "people don't want your problem, they want to know you tried first," and now I've been leading with what I've already attempted before posting or calling, has anyone else found that simple framing gets way better responses in volunteer groups?

MAN, I see it the exact OPPOSITE way. People love a good fixer-upper story, they wanna feel like the hero who saved someone from total chaos, not just give a pat on the back for a half-hearted effort. Leading with your failures makes you look like you need a hand, which gets way more sympathy than looking like you've got it mostly handled.
