I switched from a big group chat to a neighborhood app for our block party and it was a game changer
We used to plan our annual street party in a 30-person text thread, and it was chaos with missed info and constant notifications. This year we used the Nextdoor app for our area in Springfield, and we could post a sign-up sheet, a map for potluck spots, and a single thread for questions. It cut down the planning time from two weeks of back-and-forth to maybe three days of clear updates. Has anyone else found a better tool for organizing local stuff like this?

Nextdoor sounds way better than trying to herd cats in a group text.

Set up a single post for each event and pin it to the top of the group. That way, like @kim.ben said, you stop the cat herding because everyone sees the same info. We list who's bringing drinks, snacks, and tables right in that first post so people just reply under those lines. It cuts out all the noise and actually gets things done.

Totally agree, that sounds so much easier. We tried a neighborhood app last fall for a yard sale and it was a night and day difference, just like @kim.ben said about herding cats. Instead of fifty texts asking "who has change for a twenty," we put a list of needs in one post. People could just comment "got it" under the thing they'd bring, like a table or signs. It stopped all the repeat questions and made the whole thing way less stressful for everyone trying to help out.
