Realized I'd been doing volunteer scheduling completely wrong after one board member called me out

I spent 6 months building a signup sheet for our food pantry with 30-minute slots, but after one guy pointed out that the shifts were too short for anyone to actually commute and help, I switched to 2-hour blocks and suddenly everyone started showing up - has anyone else found that shorter volunteer slots actually hurt turnout?

It reminds me of a buddy who ran a church cleanup and kept trying 45 minute slots, everyone kept flaking. He finally switched to 3 hour blocks after someone complained about the drive time, and suddenly the same people were showing up early. It's wild how that simple change flips the whole thing.
