Shoutout to the volunteer group that cleaned up the park near my house
I saw them out there last Saturday and found out they pulled over 300 pounds of trash from the creek. It made me think, how do you even start organizing something like that for a neighborhood?

Used to think you needed some official permit or a ton of people to start. Turns out it's way simpler. Just pick a spot and a date, then post about it on Nextdoor or a neighborhood Facebook page. Grab some trash bags from home, maybe some work gloves. The first time we did it, just three of us showed up and filled ten bags in two hours. Seeing the difference right away is what gets other people to join the next time.

Exactly, the barrier to entry is so low once you actually try it. We started with just a couple neighbors picking up litter on our street corner every other Sunday. Now it's a whole block thing because people saw us out there and it clicked for them. That visible change really is the best advertisement.

My buddy did that at a local park. Just him and his kid with a bucket. A guy walking his dog saw them and came back with his own bags to help.
