The train door shut on my backpack strap
I was boarding the 7:45 into Union Station last Thursday and my backpack strap got caught in the closing doors. The train started moving and I was stuck there, bent over sideways trying to keep my balance. Two people saw me and started yelling for the conductor while I was just wedged there for about 30 seconds. Finally someone hit the emergency strip and the doors popped open... Has anyone else had a bag or coat get caught like that?

bet that was terrifying. i've seen it happen to a lady with her coat on the L back in chicago and the train dragged her for like ten feet before someone pulled the emergency brake. they really need to fix those door sensors because your bag getting stuck is super common especially during rush hour when everyone's jammed in like sardines. glad someone actually hit that strip because most people just stare and hope for the best. your mileage may vary but i'd say always face the door if you're standing near it with a backpack, learned that the hard way after almost losing a laptop.

That's the thing about modern life isn't it, we're all so used to filming things that nobody remembers you can actually still just pull a lever or hit a button.

MAN, I used to roll my eyes at people complaining about this. Thought it was just bad luck or people not paying attention. But then it happened to me last month with my jacket hood and I was STRUCK by how helpless you feel when the train's already rolling. @averysullivan is right about those door sensors being junk, they're practically useless for anything smaller than a suitcase. That 30 seconds probably felt like an hour, glad someone actually did something instead of just filming it for social media.
