90 days of documenting drives finally paid off

Back in February I started jotting down every drive I replaced and what was wrong with it. Nothing fancy just a notebook by my bench. Yesterday I had a client with a failing Seagate 2TB and I could see right away it was the 6th one I had seen from the same batch from a local reseller. I showed them the pattern and they switched to a different supplier. It felt good to have real numbers instead of just guessing. Has anyone else tracked their failures over time and found a surprise like that?

Buddy of mine did this with car batteries and found out one store sold duds twice as often.

Oh MAN, that hit me right in the wallet. I tried testing phone chargers from different dollar stores once and accidentally blew up three of my old phones in a row. Turns out my "genius" method of just plugging everything in without looking was flawed. Now I just buy whatever the cheapest brick is and hope for the best, which is probably why my phone charges at the speed of a sad turtle.
