The old Dell tech from 2005 told me to always reseat RAM before swapping parts and it saved me 3 hours on a dead OptiPlex this morning

Had a 9020 that wouldn't post, was about to order a new board on O'Reilly's site, but remembered his advice and just pushed the sticks down a little firmer and it booted right up - anyone else still have random tips from retired techs stuck in your head?

That old trick comes in handy more than people think. Same goes for clearing the CMOS battery on those older boards, it fixes a surprising number of weird boot issues. Always worth trying the easy stuff before you start ordering parts you might not need.

Does pulling the CMOS battery actually reset everything or just the clock settings lol
