The UPS lead-acid smell finally clicked for me today
I was swapping out a dead battery in an old APC unit at a client's office in Des Moines this morning and got that sulfur smell when I unclipped the terminals... it hit me that the sealed battery was actually venting through the casing cracks, not the vents. I've replaced like 30 of these over the years but never thought to check the plastic for hairline fractures before ordering a new one. Anyone else ever gotten a false dead-battery reading from a cracked case instead of an actual cell failure?
