I stopped power troweling every slab and my finish got better
For years I hit every slab with the power trowel as soon as it would hold me, chasing that glass smooth shine because that's what the older guys on the crew in Fort Worth always did. Then about 8 months ago a finisher with 30 years in told me I was burning the surface and sealing in bleed water, so I switched to hand floating the edges first and waiting almost 45 minutes longer before touching it with the machine. Has anyone else backed way off on troweling and gotten a harder, cleaner slab out of it, or am I just lucky on the pours I've been on lately?
