Pump truck hose blew a fitting and we lost half a slab

Tuesday on a job in Fresno, the 3 inch hose on the pumper let go right at the coupling. We had about 4 yards down on a garage slab when it split, sent concrete everywhere and we had to call a truck washout service. Took us 3 hours to clean the mess and re-pour, the homeowner was standing right there watching the whole thing. Anyone else had a pump line blow on them mid-pour and how did you handle the cleanup?

The fitting failing right at the coupling is usually from the hose whipping around when it's not secured. I always chain the hose to the chute or the rebar now, takes two minutes and saves you the headache. For cleanup, we use a vacuum truck with a wide hose tip, gets the wet concrete up fast before it sets on the ground. That homeowner watching is the worst part, makes you feel like you're on a reality show. Honestly, calling the washout service was the right move, trying to hose it down just makes a bigger mess and you're on the hook for the runoff. Keep a spare coupling and a crimp tool in the truck, it's a ten minute fix if the line splits somewhere you can get to.
