He pointed at the digital sign and said 'watch it jump at 6:02, that's when the feed hits, not when the driver shows up,' and now I can't unsee the pattern on every road trip since, anyone else notice these things never match the actual pumps?

Honestly that’s just how the whole gas pricing system works now, it’s all algorithms and feeds. The sign has zero to do with what’s in the ground, it’s just the wholesale number for the area. You’ll always spot the lie if you watch the pumps during a jump, they stay stuck for hours.
