Hit 100 sales of my crochet plant hangers out of a spare bedroom and the numbers are not what I pictured
I started making crochet plant hangers in our spare bedroom in April, mostly to use up yarn I already had, and I crossed 100 total sales just after Christmas. Here is the part that bugs me. I did the math on all of it, and after Etsy fees, shipping supplies, and the yarn itself, I cleared about $640 on those 100 hangers. That works out to $6.40 per hanger and roughly 45 minutes of work on each one, so I was making around $8 an hour the whole time. I keep seeing people treat the 100 sale mark like it means something, but it only meant something to me once I saw the real profit sitting there. For anyone who sells handmade stuff, do you price by the hour or just mark up materials and hope it works out?
