Am I the only one who thinks the book was way better than the movie for The Outsiders?
I finally watched the movie version of The Outsiders last week after reading the book like 4 times, and I gotta say the book wins by a mile. The movie cuts out so much of Ponyboy's inner thoughts, which is like the whole point of the story, and it rushes through the church scenes in maybe 10 minutes when the book spends a good 30 pages there. I'd give the book a solid 9/10 but the movie only gets a 6/10 from me, mostly because the acting feels stiff and the music is way too dramatic for chill scenes. Plus the book lets you sit with the characters and feel what they're going through, while the movie just jumps from one fight to the next. Has anyone else read a book and then watched the movie and felt like the movie totally missed the vibe? What book-to-movie swaps do you think got it right or wrong?
Does it really matter that much though? A movie can't spend 30 pages on one scene, and calling the acting stiff in a 1983 teen film is kinda missing the point of why people love it.
