I finally ditched gas for induction and it was way cheaper than I thought

Yo did you have to upgrade your hood situation or was the install pretty straight forward? Because I switched my home kitchen last year too and the cool down thing is the WORST when I'm trying to do multiple batches of something. Like I'll be making grilled cheese and the second I drop a cold buttered pan on there it's like the burner gives up for a minute. But honestly the speed of boiling water is what sold me forever, I timed it once and it was literally half the time compared to my old gas stove. Plus no more scrubbing those stupid burner grates every weekend, that alone was worth the switch for me.

Overheard a guy at the supply yard say he never cleans his mixer drum

My dad was a plasterer back in the 80s and he treated his hawk and trowel the same way. Let everything crust up between jobs and then beat it clean with a hammer before the next one. Drove his helper crazy but he swore the built-up layers kept the mud from sticking too fast.

My grandmother's cornbread recipe got ruined by a store brand swap

Totally agree with @abby308, toasting fixed my gummy batch last month too.

Spent 6 hours on a concrete foundation layout before I realized my measuring tape was stretched

Yeah that's a classic mistake (stretched tapes are sneaky little liars). Best fix is to check against a new tape or a known standard length like a 4x8 sheet of plywood before you get too deep. Dollar store tapes are especially bad for this so always test them first.

Saw my sister get another generic candle for her birthday. It's a total waste.

Exactly. I used to think gift cards were lazy until I bought my sister a scarf she clearly hated. She wore it once for a photo and then it went to the back of her closet forever. Now I just hand her a card to her favorite bookstore and she picks out three novels instead. Way less stress for me and she actually gets stuff she wants.
