Spent 2 hours locked out of my own router because of one dumb setting
I tried to change my Wi-Fi password before family came over for the weekend in Albany and somehow locked myself out of the admin page completely. Turns out I had turned on remote management a while back and forgot, so the router was only accepting logins from a weird old IP address. It took me 2 hours and a paperclip reset to the back of the thing to get back in, and I lost every custom setting I had. Does anyone here keep a written list of their router settings before messing with them, or is that just me being paranoid now?
Oh man, I feel your pain on this one! I did the exact same thing last year and that paperclip reset hurt my soul, because I had named every device on my network and set up guest access and all of it just vanished in seconds. Now I snap a photo of every settings page on my phone before I touch anything, and I keep a little notebook with the login info and the weird options written down too. My family thinks I'm nuts but guess who never lost two hours to a router again. Better paranoid than locked out, that's what I say.
