Two-factor app locked me out of my own email on Sunday
My auth app reset itself during a phone update and I lost the codes for my main Gmail. That locked me out of my password manager too, so I spent 4 hours on hold with Google support on a burner phone. They finally verified me with old account details and a recovery email from 2019. I now keep backup codes in a physical envelope in my desk drawer, both at home and at the office. Has anyone else switched to hardware keys after a similar scare? I'm thinking a YubiKey might be worth the $50.
