My uncle swore BJ's was cheaper than Market Basket, and I spent $210 proving him wrong
So my uncle has been telling me for about two years that I'm throwing money away doing my big grocery run at Market Basket instead of BJ's. He said the bulk sizes beat everything, every time. Last Saturday I finally tested it. I wrote down 14 things we buy every single week, stuff like pasta, cereal, coffee, paper towels, laundry soap, and drove to both stores in Concord and wrote down the price on each one. Turns out on 9 of the 14, Market Basket came out cheaper once I did the per ounce math, and the few BJ's wins were tiny, like 30 cents. The membership fee alone would have eaten up whatever I saved. I'm not mad about the trip, I'm mad I let him talk me into doubting my own system for this long. So now I'm curious, has anyone here actually run the numbers on their own list and found the warehouse clubs worth it, or is it mostly a myth unless you have a big family?
