Rant: that $5 mystery bag from the Manchester farmers market almost felt like a scam
Last Saturday I paid $5 for one of those "ugly veg" grab bags at the Manchester farmers market, mostly because my kid dared me to. The lady warned me it was whatever didn't sell, so I figured I'd get two sad zucchinis and a bruised tomato. I got home and pulled out 3 pounds of carrots, a head of cabbage, six peppers, and a bag of green beans. The peppers were a little soft on one side but the rest was fine, and I ended up making a big pot of soup plus a slaw. Did I just get lucky, or is this grab bag thing actually a solid move every weekend?
How good was that haul for five bucks though? I hit the one in Concord a few weeks back and got a whole sack of potatoes, some slightly bendy celery, and a bunch of kale that perked right back up after a soak in cold water. Made a huge batch of potato soup and froze half of it, so it basically paid for itself. Sounds like the grab bag is the move as long as you're cool with cooking around whatever's in there, lol. I'd say go back next weekend and see if it holds up.
