Shoutout to the guy at the Concord farmers market who set me straight on haggling
I tried to haggle down a $12 quart of maple syrup at the Concord farmers market last Saturday and the vendor just stared at me. An older guy standing nearby pulled me aside and said "buddy, these folks price things fair, you're not at a yard sale." I felt like a jerk so I bought the syrup at full price and honestly it was worth every penny. Now I just pay what's on the tag unless it's a bulk deal or end of day. Anyone else had a moment where someone called them out for being too cheap at a local market?
Reminds me of the time I tried to talk down a guy selling tomatoes at a roadside stand in Loudon. He just shook his head and said "son, I picked these this morning, you want em or not." Bought two pounds without another word and they were the best tomatoes I had all summer. Funny how getting shut down like that sticks with you. Now I don't even think about it at small stands, the price is the price. Learned my lesson the easy way I guess.
