Stopped printing coupons from the Sunday paper, now I just use the Hannaford app
I used to clip coupons from the Union Leader every Sunday and had a whole binder organized by aisle, which took me about two hours a week. Then maybe 8 months ago I started using the Hannaford app and I'm getting way better deals on stuff I actually buy, like $1.50 off the pasta I get anyway. My sister swears the paper still has better deals but I tracked it for a month and the app saved me $38 more. I know people love their paper coupons but I'm not going back. Has anyone else made the switch or am I missing something the app doesn't cover?
Seems like everything is going this way now, not just coupons. My insurance guy used to mail me a renewal packet, now I just pull up the app and it's done in two minutes. Same with my bank, the pharmacy, even ordering pizza. The paper version still works but it's slower and you miss stuff. What gets me is the apps know what you actually buy, so the deals are for things you want instead of stuff you'd never touch. That's the real reason you saved $38, it's not that the app has better coupons, it's that it stops wasting your time on ones you'll never use. Your sister probably clips a bunch she never redeems and counts those as savings in her head. Tracking it for a month like you did is the only way to know for sure, and the numbers don't lie.
