The guy at the Derry flea market talked me out of a $40 coin lot and I'm still thinking about it
I was poking through a coin dealer's table at the Derry flea market two Sundays back, and I had a $40 bill half out of my wallet for a mixed lot of old quarters. The seller, an older fellow with a folding chair and a coffee can for change, put his hand up and said "save your money, half of those are just worn out." He then pulled out three specific coins from the pile, pointed at the wear on the dates, and told me exactly which ones were worth about a dollar each and which one might bring $8 on a good day. It took him maybe two minutes, and he lost a sale doing it. I stood there kind of stunned, because I've been buying junk lots for a couple of years now and nobody has ever done that. It got me wondering how many times I've overpaid on stuff like that without knowing any better. Does anyone have a go-to table or seller around the state who is straight with you like that? I would rather give my money to somebody honest even if the prices are a little higher.
