PSA: Lost $400 on a 'premium' membership to a Detroit networking group that was basically just ads for the founder's coaching program

Signed up for some exclusive club called Motor City Connects thinking I'd get real leads, but it was just a sales funnel for his $2,000 course. Has anyone else been burned by one of these expensive groups?

400 bucks down the drain on Motor City Connects, same thing happened to me with a "VIP" group here in Nashville. My rule now is if they won't let you sit in on one meeting for free before paying, it's probably just a money grab.

Honestly that's a solid rule and I learned it the hard way too. Before I joined my current group I asked to sit in on a regular meeting first not some fancy pitch night. They let me come twice before I paid a dime. If they say no or try to rush you into a "limited time discount" thats a huge red flag. Also check if they have a real online presence with actual member reviews not just paid testimonials. Tbh the legit groups usually run a low cost trial or let you shadow for free because they know their value speaks for itself.
