Vent: a mixer at the Chamber breakfast on Mack Ave cost me two good leads
Last Thursday I paid $35 to sit at a table of eight at a chamber breakfast over on Mack Ave, and the guy running the mixer made us do a 60 second pitch to the whole room. I froze and burned 40 of those seconds talking about my cousin's wedding instead of my business. Two people who could have used my service came up to me after, but they had already swapped cards with the fast talkers. Now I skip any event that starts with a room wide pitch and only go to ones where you sit and talk. I also ask the organizer one question before I pay: is this sit down or stand up and perform? Anyone got a room in Detroit that runs their mixer this way and still gets real intros?
