That old timer's tip about diesel fuel additives saved my injectors

Back in March my 7.3 Powerstroke started running rough at idle. An old guy named Pete at the parts counter told me to stop using that cheap all-in-one fuel additive and just use a straight cetane booster for a few tanks. I figured he was just pushing the expensive stuff. But after two tanks of the straight booster my injector knock was gone and my fuel economy came back by about 1.5 mpg. Has anyone else had better luck with single-purpose additives over the fancy blends?

@the_elliot might be onto something, but maybe my injectors just got scared straight after that talk with Pete. At least if they blow up now I can blame the cheap fuel I was buying before.

Yeah just a heads up cetane is more about starting and cold weather performance, not really cleaning injectors. It could have been something else in the fuel that fixed it.
