Warning: I figured those 20 dollar injector o-rings were junk, and I was right
Picked up a set of cheap o-rings off a site for 20 bucks to seal the injectors on a 6.7 Cummins and the guy at the counter in Bakersfield warned me they'd fail. I ran them anyway since it was a fleet truck and I was trying to save the customer some money. Three months and about 4,000 miles later two of them were leaking diesel into the crankcase and I had to pull the whole rail apart again. The old diesel tech at the shop laughed and handed me a set of the OEM ones that cost 90. How many of you have been burned by cheap seals on a job you thought would be a quick fix?
Skipping the OEM seals on injector work is false economy every time. Saving a few bucks up front on a fleet truck just means the customer pays double later when you gotta tear the rail back apart. That old tech laughing was him saying he's seen it a hundred times before. Cheap rubber doesn't hold up to diesel and heat the way the real ones do. Next time just hand the customer the 90 dollar set and call it done.
