Gallery lighting drove me crazy at the spring art walk

Went to the downtown gallery crawl last Friday and half the digital pieces were impossible to see. One screen had a ceiling light reflecting right down the middle, and the artist just stood there nodding at people squinting. Has anyone else dealt with display setups that ruin the work, or is it just me expecting basic thought from venues?

Did you ever stop to think that maybe the artist knew exactly what they were dealing with and chose that spot anyway? Plenty of these small venues have terrible lighting, and the artists often have zero say in where their piece goes. I have been to a few art walks where the glare was awful, but the artist was just happy to be showing at all. The real problem might be that the venue does not invest in proper track lighting or adjustable spots. I would put the blame on the gallery owner, not the person standing next to their screen. Sometimes you have to view these pieces from a certain angle, and that is part of the experience, even if it is annoying.
