PSA: My external drive corrupted 40 hours of layered artwork and I never backed it up
I lost 3 months of Procreate files on a Tuesday when my Seagate drive just blinked and died, and the recovery shop in Austin quoted me $650 which I did not pay. Anyone else learn the backup lesson the hard way, or am I the only one who trusted a single drive?
Man that $650 quote hurts almost as much as losing the files. What did the shop actually tell you when they looked at it, did they say the platters were scratched or just that the controller board fried? I'm asking because those two things are real different. A dead board can sometimes get swapped for cheap, but if the drive took a drop or made any clicking noise, that's when the price shoots up. Did yours click at all before it went, or was it dead silent?
