Showerthought: People keep saying you need a $2000 tablet for pro digital art and it's just not true.
I've seen this idea pushed a lot in showcase comments, especially to new artists. I've been drawing for five years and my main tool is still a $300 model I got on sale. The work I post gets the same kind of feedback as pieces made on the expensive gear. Isn't it more about how you use the tools you have? What's one piece of art you're proud of that you made with a 'budget' setup?

Seriously, what's the best trick you've learned on that budget tablet?

My buddy figured out the "best trick" with his cheap tablet last week. He found a free drawing app that lets him use his phone as a pressure-sensitive pen. He just rests his phone's screen on the tablet and draws with his finger. The phone picks up the pressure and sends it to the tablet. He showed me a sketch he did of his dog and it looked shockingly good, like he used a fancy stylus. Total game changer for him and it cost nothing.

Totally agree, it's all about skill, not the price tag. My first tablet was a cheap off-brand one that barely worked half the time. The best trick I learned was just messing with the brush settings in my software until I got a texture I liked, which made my lines look way better. I did a whole comic series on that thing and people always asked what fancy pen I used. It proves you can make good art with anything if you put in the time to learn it.
