My portable monitor died in a cafe in Lisbon at the worst possible moment

I was wrapping up a client presentation at a cafe near the Time Out Market when the screen just flickered and went black, no warning at all, and I had four figures of edits still open on my laptop. I spent the next 45 minutes panicking and trying to project from my tiny laptop screen while the coffee shop WiFi kept dropping me from the video call. Has anyone else had a critical piece of gear fail right before a deadline, and what's your backup plan for when it happens?

Ugh, I gotta disagree with you there. That sounds like bad luck, sure, but blaming the gear feels like a free pass. I always have a backup HDMI cable and a second device ready to go, even if it's just my phone, because stuff like this ALWAYS happens at the worst time.
