PSA: That guy who told me to skip the thermal paste on my Switch OLED repaste was dead wrong

My temps shot up to 85C under load after I followed his advice, and I had to tear the whole thing apart again to clean off the caked-on residue from the factory paste - has anyone else run into bad modding advice that just ruined your build? lmao

Haha "skip the thermal paste" is WILD advice. Like yeah just let your Switch run DRY, what could go wrong? I swear some people treat modding tips like they're cooking recipes and just leave out CRITICAL ingredients. 85C is basically a toaster oven at that point, you're lucky you didn't melt the heat sink or something. The factory paste caking up on you is the WORST part, it's like peeling off a dried cheese crust. Whoever told you that was probably the same guy who says you don't need oil in your car because "it's just extra weight.

Man, I gotta admit, I used to be one of those guys who thought you could cheap out on thermal paste. I figured, how bad could it really be? But after seeing this, I'm definitely not messing around anymore. The factory stuff is straight up garbage when it dries out, and skipping paste is just asking for a melted Switch. That comparison to not putting oil in your car is spot on, it's the same lazy thinking. I'm glad I read this before I tried modding mine, you probably saved me a big headache.
