Saw a guy at a local retro game store claim he swapped a PS5 disc drive onto a Switch

I was picking up a copy of River City Girls 2 and this dude was telling the clerk he'd seen a mod where someone wired a PS5 disc drive into a Switch dock to play physical PS1 games. No joke, he was dead serious about it working because 'the pins are almost the same layout.' Has anyone here ever tried something that bonkers with console hardware where it actually worked out, or was this guy just full of it?

The PS5 disc drive pins being "almost the same layout" as a Switch dock is probably the wildest thing I've heard all week. I'd love to see the wiring diagram for that because PS1 games are CD based and the Switch doesn't even have a CD laser or the right file system to read them. Plus you can't just jam different connector standards together and hope for the best, that's how you fry a motherboard. That guy either saw a really good photoshop or he's mixing up rumors with reality. I've seen people solder custom RAM onto old Xboxes but that's at least in the same console family. This just sounds like someone who watched one youtube video about GPIO pins and thought they were an engineer.
