Why I regret putting a clear shell on my Switch OLED
I watched all these videos praising transparent shells, so I spent 45 bucks and two evenings swapping mine out last spring. The plastic feels cheaper than the original, and after three weeks the back panel started showing every little fingerprint and scratch like a magnifying glass. Has anyone else gone back to their stock shell after trying this, or am I just too picky about how it looks in hand?
Learned this the hard way with a clear case on my phone years back, and the same thing happens with shells: clear plastic is not really clear, it is just see through enough to show you every bit of dust and oil that gets under it. The part nobody talks about is how the inside of that shell traps junk you can see through the plastic, so you end up with this gross outline of dust around the edges that you can never fully wipe out. On a Switch OLED it is worse because the vents pull in pocket lint and skin flakes, and once that stuff sticks to the inside of a clear back panel you have to take the whole thing apart again to clean it. That is the real reason people go back to stock, not just the feel of the plastic. Colored or frosted shells hide all of that, so if you still want to swap, skip clear and go for something opaque.
