The moment I chose a USB-C dock over a simple hub for my home desk

I had to decide between a cheap hub for $25 or a proper dock for $80 last month. Went with the dock because I needed to plug in my monitor, laptop charger, and external drive all at once. Man, that extra money saved me so much cable swapping frustration (and a fried port scare I had before). Has anyone else gone the dock route and regretted not doing it sooner?

Did you see that Gamers Nexus video where they tested cheap hubs against proper docks? They pointed out how the docks handle power delivery way better, and it made me realize my old hub was probably one bad surge away from killing my laptop.

Hubs and docks all have to pass certain safety standards, so I'm not sure one bad surge would take out a modern laptop unless it was already faulty. Feels like that video might have been a bit dramatic for clicks.
