TIL you can fix a laptop screen flicker by reseating the cable inside
My old laptop screen kept blinking on and off, and I was sure it needed a $150 replacement panel. After watching a video from a repair shop in Austin, I opened it up, pushed the display cable back into its socket firmly, and it's been solid for a week now. Has anyone else had luck with a simple internal cable fix instead of buying new parts?

Remember to check the cable's actual condition while you're in there. I've seen cases where the flicker came from a tiny tear in the cable insulation, not just a loose plug. A bit of electrical tape can sometimes get you more time before a real replacement is needed. It's worth looking the whole cable over for any pinch marks or exposed wire, especially near the hinges. That's often the spot that fails from repeated opening and closing.

Electrical tape as a fix? That's a fire waiting to happen. You get a tiny tear, moisture gets in, and next thing you know you've got a short. I've pulled charred wires out of walls where someone tried that trick. It's never just a bit of tape, it's a sign the whole cable is compromised and needs to go.

Yeah that "charred wires out of walls" line really hits home. I had to rewire an old lamp my dad "fixed" with tape and the inside was all black and brittle. It's scary how a tiny bit of damage can turn into something so dangerous.
