My $10 shelf pin jig beat the $60 store one, heres why

I spent 6 months using a store bought shelf pin jig and always got wobbly holes. Last week I tried a homemade template from scrap plywood and a drill bushing I found on a forum. The secret was clamping it dead flat, not just holding it by hand. It took me 2 tries to get the spacing right, but the final holes are straighter than anything I did before. The store jig flexed at the edges on my 3/4 inch plywood top, this one does not. Anyone else build their own jig out of scrap after wasting cash on a fancy one?

Remember plywood can still flex a bit if you dont use a thick enough piece.
